My heart

In the reversed light, in the shadows
I hear the echo of your every footfall
as they twist their way through the dark

Careless words on a hillside in the moonlight
long ago embrace my heart
and whisper haunting things to my soul

The blackness inside me has been
laid to rest, buried deep
Yet I wonder:

Does it merely lie in wait to destroy me?
