The Honduran

We have danced
many times

Why won’t you look me in
the eyes?
the soul?

Why don’t you kiss me on the
mouth?

I find you hollow

Bitter

A bit too dark

Mellow when you should have
fire

Yet tonight
We dance again

And you wrap me in
familiar arms
